Orthopaedic Summer Internship FAQs

What do I need to do to apply for the Orthopaedic Summer Intern Program?
Application requirements and deadlines for each of the programs are listed under View details /Apply section of the programs website.

I am finishing my first semester of medical school but have not received my official grades at this time. May I apply to the Program even though I will not have my grades until a later date?
Yes, you may apply now. You will need to provide your official transcripts by the application deadline. Downloaded, email, or copies of transcripts will not be accepted.

How do I submit my supporting application documents?
We prefer electronic submission for all supporting application materials (CV, Letter of Interest, Letter(s) of Recommendation) as long as they meet the criteria outlined in the in the application directions. However, your official medical school transcripts must be sent via mail to the designated program address.

How will I know when my application is complete?
You will receive a confirmation email for all materials received online and through the mail. Two weeks prior to the application deadline, an email will be sent to all applicants notifying them of all outstanding materials. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure all materials are submitted prior to the deadlines. LATE documents will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS. So, please plan ahead and accordingly.

When will I be notified if I have been selected for an interview?
Approximately three weeks after the application deadline we will begin the interview process. An update will placed on the News/Events page of the website alerting applicants when the process will begin. All applicants will be notified of their status, and whether they will be granted the opportunity of an interview.

Where will the interviews be held?
The interviews will be held in at least two locations. The locations will be announced on the News/Events page of the website. Grants will be provided to the selected applicants to defray the cost of accommodations and transportation to the interview.

When will I know if I have been selected as a Summer Intern?
To enable all applicants to make alternative plans for the summer, the selection process should be complete no later than March 30, 2010.

If selected as a Summer Intern, may I request a particular preceptor or site location?
We are always open and respect the request of our students, however unless there are unusual and documented circumstances, Nth Dimensions reserves the right to select your preceptor and site location.

I have previous engagements that may cause me to miss time during the program. Will this be a problem?
Yes. Only under extreme circumstances may an Intern miss time from the program. These issues should be addressed prior to accepting a position as a summer intern.

As an Intern, how do I support myself throughout the summer?
The program will provide the interns with basic essentials to sustain them throughout the summer in the form of a stipend. The stipend will cover housing, transportation, and a per diem for cost of living expenses. This amount may vary based on location.

My University/College provides scholarships/funding for research programs. Am I still eligible to apply for Nth Dimensions’ programs, and will this affect the stipend that I receive from the program?
If our program meets the criteria established by your college/university, we encourage you to apply for whatever additional funding that you may need. Receipt of outside funding will not impact the stipend that you receive from our program.

I've applied for an Nth Dimensions scholarship/program and did not get it. Can I apply for other programs/scholarships again at a later date?
Yes. Applications for scholarships/programs are open throughout the year. Please check the Our Programs section of the website for programs, and their respective links for deadlines and qualifications.

If I have questions or concerns, what is the best way to reach you?
All questions should be sent to programs@nthdimesions.com or info@nthdimensions.com. Due to the number of inquiries that we receive, please allow at least 48 hours for a response.

Medical Student Forum Housing Grant FAQs

What do I need to do to apply for the AAOS Housing Grant?
Application requirements and deadlines for each of the programs are listed under View Details /Apply section of the programs website.

I am waiting to see if I receive the housing grant before I make my travel arrangements will this create a problem?
Yes. Proof of your travel arrangements is an application requirement. If this documentation is not submitted prior to the deadline, your application will be disqualified. In addition, once we have received the maximum number of applications, the online application process will close. This will preclude applicants from making travel arrangements without knowing whether housing grants are still available.

When will I know if I have been selected for the housing grant?
To enable all applicants to make alternative arrangements, the Nth Dimensions will complete the selection process no later than January 30, 2010 or once the maximum number of applications have been received, whichever comes first.

If selected for the housing grant, may I request a roommate or particular hotel?
We are always
open and respect the requests of our students.  However, unless there
are unusual documented circumstances, the program reserves the right to
select your roommate and hotel.

Are there any transportation grants or scholarships available through Nth Dimensions for the Medical Student Forum at the AAOS?
Not at this time.

Based on my travel itinerary, will the housing grant accommodate my needs?
The program will only host a recipient during the date(s) specified in the application. Any accommodations required beyond these specified dates will be the sole responsibility of the student.

Based on my travel itinerary, is it okay if I miss one meeting?
As a condition of accepting the housing grant, all recipients will be required to attend the following Medical Student Symposium activities at the AAOS meeting:

Annual Luncheon of the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society (JRGOS)
Medical Student Symposium Session
JRGOS Mentoring Reception
Trilogy Breakfast

(This program list is subject to change as the meeting agenda is finalized. Mandatory Forum events will be posted in the News/ Events section of the website prior to the Academy meeting.)
